Our Memorial Paperweight Class allows you to take part in the creation of a memento of your loved one. You will work with one of our glassblowers to help create your own unique paperweight style design, using a small amount of cremation ash. Each session is about 20-30 minutes long. Note that we have a daily minimum of 2 sessions, so you may choose to do this with another person, or you can do it by yourself and make two memorial objects. Once we have our daily minimum of sessions booked, we add single-session classes to our calendar for that day; so you may be able to find single sessions by searching our calendar for dates that already have bookings.
In this class you will be assisting our glassblower to make your memorial. You will select and apply colors to your piece and help to shape it. You may choose from several different styles including a classical spherical paperweight, a heart, or a starfish.
The class is held at our outdoor hotshop. We generate a lot of heat, in addition to what Mother Nature provides, so you should be prepared to sweat (or at least glow), which means you should bring Gatorade or your favorite drink. We have filtered tap water in our coffee shop, as well as bottled water and other drinks for sale. We provide safety glasses, which must be worn. If you have prescription glasses, wear contacts if possible. You may be able to wear the safety glasses over your prescription–we have special safety glasses for that purpose.
The class is limited to ages 16 and up unless it is taken with, or supervised by, a parent or guardian. You must also sign a release before you can take the class. The release and more class information can be downloaded once you purchase your class session. The class may be taken as a group, with each person taking their turn to make their piece while others watch or assist. It takes about 20-30 minutes for each person.
