Vase Glassblowing Class

We require a minimum of 2 booked sessions per day.  So the minimum booking is for a 2 session group class.  Once we have the 2 person minimum, we will offer single person bookings for that day.  You are welcome to book a 2 session spot for yourself.  If you do that, you will be able to create at least 2 pieces.

Please note that your glass creations will need to spend the night in our annealing oven.  You will be able to pick it up after 11 am the following morning.  Shipping is available.

This class is taught outdoors and subject to cancellation or rescheduling if the weather is severe.  Our work space is covered, so we are generally OK with a light rain, but not lightning, high winds or extreme heat/cold.  If possible, we will let you know at least one day prior if your class cannot be conducted.  Note that we will not be able to teach classes if the heat index exceeds 90° F.

**Cancellation Policy:  We prepare for your class on the day prior to your scheduled class date and light our glass furnace for your class between 4 am and 6 am on the day of your class.  Once we light the furnace, there is no turning back for us.  So we cannot provide a refund or reschedule on the day of your class.  However, you may reschedule your class or request a refund up to 24 hours prior to your scheduled class time.  You can go to your Island Fire account page to reschedule

Our Blow and Go glassblowing classes are quick introductions to furnace (offhand) glassblowing and sculpting.  In this vase glassblowing class you will work with our glassblower to make a unique blown glass vase.  You select the colors and work them into the hot glass, then we help you shape and form your vase while you blow!  Each session is about 30-45 minutes long.  You can book a scheduled class or, if you are visiting our shop during a production day, we will do our best to squeeze you in while you’re here.  Note that we have a daily minimum of 2 students, so if you want to do this class solo, you will need to book a 2-session class, or wait for someone else to do that.  Once we have our daily minimum we will add single-session classes to our calendar for that day.

The vase glassblowing class is held at our outdoor hotshop.  We generate a lot of heat, in addition to what Mother Nature provides, so you should be prepared to sweat (or at least glow), which means you should bring Gatorade or your favorite drink.  We have filtered tap water in our coffee shop, as well as bottled water and other drinks for sale.  We will have adequate ventilation and a fan in the work area.  We provide safety glasses, which must be worn.  If you have prescription glasses, wear contacts if possible.  You may be able to wear the safety glasses over your prescription–we have special safety glasses for that purpose.

The class is limited to ages 16 and up unless it is taken with, or supervised by, a parent or guardian.  You must also sign a release before you can take the class. The release and more class information can be downloaded once you purchase your class session.  The class may be taken as a group, with each person taking their turn to make their art piece while others watch or assist.  It takes about 30-45 minutes for each person.  We also do a demo first, which takes about 30 minutes.

If you don’t see a time that works for you, please call us.  We may be able to accommodate  groups outside of our normal instruction hours.  Are you looking for a group business activity?  Please call and ask about our group packages.
